Robot Gali V : “Treasure Island”

Gali V is a robot created in order to participate in the French Cup of Robotics.

The French Cup of Robotics is an annual competition. This competition is a major meeting for a large number of engineering schools. The students show the product of their creativity which required a whole working year: a robot. This year, the competition will take place from 16 till 19 May 2012. The theme is "the treasure island ". Robots are pirates who have to collect the maximum of coins and golden ingots. Moreover the teams can design not one but two robots.

To realize the robot, six members of the association Eceborg were mobilized. We realized two main objectives in this PPE. The first one of them was to make a robot functional and capable of respecting the rules of the French Cup of Robotics 2012 before the date of May 16th, 2012. The second was to realize the best possible performance.

In the point of view of the material and the innovations, we started on bases realized on the previous robots to display the reusable materials to optimize the budget assigned to the production of the robot. Concerning the innovation, we analyzed the performances of the various modules of the previous robots to define the positive and negative points to improve them or even change totally the used methods. We also analyzed the logistics and the communication realized in the organization of the event to plan the implementation of new tools.

A modelling of Gali V was realized with the software SolidWorks. It served as reference for the finalization of the mechanical design and of the prototypes of actuators. All year round, we realized the mechanical and electronic realization of the robot. During the assembly, unitarian tests were made to make sure that the robot responded correctly the wanted requirements. In parallel, the IA and the bookshops of control of the robot were coded.

The robot is now functional with a program of basic ratification. The time staying before the term of the French cup of Robotics, on May 16th, 2012, will be used to perfect the strategy, and thus the code which ensues from it, and to enhance reliability of the functioning of the robot.
